A jerk is anyone between the ages of 13 and 45 who likes to intentionally put people down.
Qualifiers:
always dress up to look good because they enjoy being the center of attention
Only care about themselve and nobody else
likes to make a fool out of others by calling them out
I'm a little confused on what exactly your want to define. Your word is teenagers and you're trying to say that the simple definition is saying their age doesn't mean they aren't adults? Make sure to really clarify your qualifiers as well, they are pretty broad words and may need pretty specific examples.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the same page as Kenny here. I'm not really sure what you are trying to define? In your simple definition, I think you need to explain more about what exactly a jerk is (definition). In my opinion, I don't think "being gay" and " being a jerk" are the same things! Try to fix your definition and be more specific in your qualifiers.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Khoa. "Being gay" and "being a jerk" are two different things. i think that if your definition argument was jerk, the qualifiers would be perfect, just give the simple definition for jerk. If you're sticking with gay, I would say give a better definition.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what everyone else has said. I would make sure that you clearly define each of your different arguments. When you write your thesis, don't assume that your audience knows what/who a "jerk" is. This definition varies between different people, so be sure to clearly show what your personal belief is in your definition.
ReplyDeleteI think your simple definition is too vague. Maybe say A jerk is anyone who (does something, looks like something, etc.) between the ages of 13 and 45. Also I think your qualifiers need to be super specific "enjoys being selfish" how are you defining selfish? Ask yourself these questions. Also remember you need to back yourself up every step of the way and anticipate the other sides arguments!
ReplyDeleteI think you need to explain why a jerk is only the ones between the ages of 18 and 45; how they have to have a lot of money to be a jerk. Other than that, your qualifiers are great.
ReplyDeleteI agree, anyone can be a jerk outside of this age range so your definitions makes for a good argument. Good start!
ReplyDeleteI liked you definition, but you may want to refine your qualifiers to fit your definition more appropriately..
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the dressing up part. Some people like to dress nice because it makes themselves feel good does that make them jerks?
ReplyDeleteYour simple definition is not very arguable. You could change it so that people who put others down, even if NOT intentionally, are still jerks (perhaps because they didn't consider other's feelings.)
ReplyDeleteThis is a decent definition, I feel like your last qualifier is the same as your simple definition, though. Look out for that, other than that good job.
ReplyDeleteThis definition is extremely argumentative for I am interested to see how you are further going to explore this topic. I am curious to how you are going to research this topic and how you are going to defend your definition for those are some extremely bold qualifiers. Also, I suggest you don’t use the word “jerk” for that is another word that perhaps would need defining.
ReplyDeleteI think you should elaborate more on why those are the ages of a "jerk"
ReplyDeleteI like the topic and I like your qualifiers i think it will be a really interesting paper.
ReplyDeleteI would expand more on your definition, be specific, I feel like its to broad right now. Also have better qualifiers, I don think your first qualifiers really supports your definition. I would think about it a little more on your definition
ReplyDeleteDo they have to meet all of the qualifiers? What if they are mean but aren't center of attention.
ReplyDeletearguable definition, good start for your paper the qualifiers do not have to meet all but good idea of the way they dress nice job
ReplyDeleteGood start for your definition
ReplyDeleteYou could use jersey shore as a source. So an 80 year old can't be a jerk? I would be more specific with your phrases like "calling them out."
