Reality TV is a staged situation which attempts to portray the life of Americans.
Qualifiers: in extreme situations, non-ideal lifestyles, extreme drama, situations for entertainment, not a glimpse of reality

  1. This is a really interesting topic that you picked. I definitely don't view reality television as a staged situation and I think there is some truth to the show since not all of it is rehearsed but I think that adds to your controversy of your definition. You may need to clarify the qualifiers such as situations for entertainment and not a glimpse of reality to better refute the common definition. Great job though!

  2. Are you trying to prove that reality shows are scripted then?

  3. I like your qualifiers. If reality TV is staged, those actors are pretty damn good.

  5. Great topic! I agree with what you're saying but I also think reality T.V. has a small glimpse of reality in certain ways. The more popular reality shows would be a good source.

  6. Great topic, Chelsea! But for me, I believe that Reality TV is actually true! Got an argument there...so try to define your qualifiers more specifically such as extreme situations, extreme drama..

  7. I love your topic. Although I have been in America for 2 yrs, I can tell reality TV are not about real people. Try to prove that it is scripted. However, some shows are really interesting and helpful for me because I can learn a lot about the American people, their culture and lifestyle.

  8. Great topic! My only concern is that your qualifiers are too similar, which will make your paper too drawn out. You can still have a long paper if you combine some of those together.

  9. I think that you should include some mentioning of the individual interviews that occur on the show.

  10. What you mean by "staged situation" will prove to be very important! What qualifies "staged?" Also, why only Americans? There is British reality TV, Japanese, Mexican, etc...

  13. Reality TV is a great topic for this assignment. My only recommendation is to condense your qualifiers down to three powerful supporting ones.

  16. I think you're set. You have people arguing that it's real, your qualifiers are great and so is your definition.

  18. Are there reality TV shows filmed in other parts of the world? You could say something about how it is a good indicator of the values and state of society?
