Rural is a community that partake in a subsistence lifestyle. Only use wild resources, no electricity, the population is smaller than 1,000 and a large amount of land is focused on assisting the subsistence lifestyle.
I think that you have strong qualifiers in your definition. You might want to define what wild resources include--do they hunt all of their food, do they make their own clothes/materials/furniture, etc.? Also define what constitutes a "large amount of land". Is it per person, does it include living space and crops? Great start though!
I agree that no electricity is more amish than rural. Rural is more of a country lifestyle. I think of farming and small town shops when rural comes to mind. Having a population smaller than 1,000 is a great qualifier though!
I like your topic! But if you could make it more clear on what subsistence means or use another "simpler" word, your essay will be perfect. I think your qualifiers are strong and fine enough to make an argument.
I think your word is durable because there will be many people argue about that. Why do you think rural is the place where people only use wild resources? Why is "no electricity"?
Your definition is worded a little oddly, because you refer to rural as a community. Do you mean like rural life? Otherwise I think that is a very good topic!
You included a qualifier in your simple definition! Your simp. def. is "rural is a community-" seems arguable, good! But "that lives in subsistence lifestyle" is a qualifier!
Good job, in your paper definitely elaborate on what you mean by wild resources. That could be a confusing aspect of your definition but thats the only thing. Good job.
Your definition is extremely concise and difficult to argue with. You have great qualifiers that support your definition and make it your own interpretation of what the word rural is.
nice start i think your definition is close to the real definition maybe be more broad in the definition. your qualifiers are well backed up nice start
I think you have a good start and a good definition.

ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by subsistence? Isn't not using electricity more of an amish thing and not really rural?

ReplyDeleteI agree with chelsea. Is that large amount of land dispersed among everyone or is it that everyone owns a large amount of land?

ReplyDeleteNice argument definition! I don't think there's anything I need to say.

ReplyDeleteI find this to be a creative definition and I think you will have no problem making strong arguments that people will fight. Good job!
ReplyDeleteI'm not understanding the subsistence part. I looked it up and there were multiple definitions that didn't make sense for it either.

ReplyDeleteVery good job on being very specific. I'm sure that you will find a lot of sources on this.
