Many types of music are known for their improvisation such as the blues and jamming so I would think maybe for arguments sake you should alter your definition because a musician can also be multiple people and the qualifiers don't really make sense because even if somebody messes up a chord they are still playing music. It's a difficult topic but I think you can definitely figure it out. :)
Just looking at your definition here, I'm not sure that it's a simple definition because it has some words that you need to define more about, such as a musician, a published composition, accurate. And also, you should find more qualifiers because I think 2 are not enough to write 4-6 essay.
I think you should simplify your definition even more and add more qualifiers. I think that for the second qualifier though, you're thinking about more of a concert or like a symphony, since a symphony plays great music from the past and stuff and if they were to play a piece wrong, then that would be an inaccurate performance of the piece.
Do you want to add anything about instruments, singing/voices, etc. for qualifiers? With this definition, you should probably add a few more qualifiers to help strengthen your argument. Also, make sure to clearly define all words in your simple definition. Assume that the audience does not know what they mean, or that they have a different intrepretation of the word than the average person.
Some musicians don't publish their music so this makes a good argument. Maybe you can talk about how music is qualified once it's published & to where..
I think your definition is completely debatable. However, you might make your argument be more specific. What do you mean by "accurate performance", "musician" (are they the one who write songs or singers, or both?), What kinds of "performance"? Who is going to be your audience?...
music is an art, some music is based on the inaccurate sounds created by the instrument, I dont know howe musice would have been created with out improvisation. I think you should really rethink your definition.
Could it be inaccurate if the performer messes up? You should possibly elaborate on this idea and try to include one more qualifier just to help solidify your definition. Other than that, good job.
You are headed in the right direction I just recommend that you should use one more qualifier for your definition to be strongly supported. Also, the qualifier, “the inaccurate performance of the piece” just seems like a repetitive statement to your definition. I would just re-word this qualifier for it can be more supportive toward your definition
From your definition, the fist thing that pops up in my mind is classical music, and like old composer. You started a good argument, because there are many types of music, and I think you can get a of qualifier about modern music, and older music.
I don't know if you mean to do this, but your saying music is a verb. Your definition is valid, but it's going to be really tough to write a 4 page paper on this alone.
Good argumentive definition but you could use one more qualifier, like you have to be a professional to actually get your music out there or something like that.
You should think of another qualifier so you can expand your essay

ReplyDeleteAdd more qualifiers to add depth to your paper. is music only singing? instrumental? a mix of the two? Add some points that will create an argument.

ReplyDeleteAnticipate this argument: the music of India is entirely improvisation based. Thus, you would say the Indian "raga" is not music. Argue why!

ReplyDeleteYou need more qualifiers and you definitely need to elaborate on why music cannot be improvised.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to work on a simple def a little it doesn't flow the best.

ReplyDeletenice definition music can be performed in many ways qualifiers can be supported by other types or cultural types of music

ReplyDeleteSo are you saying that something isn't "music" if it is not published? Very creative.
