The word jerk should be defined because there are a lot of misconceptions. In the dictionary the work jerk means a spasmodic, usually involuntary, muscular movement, as the reflex action of pulling the hand away from a flame (Dictionary.com, p.1). Others would define a jerk as in a guy who is an asshole and mis
treat a girl. According to Urban Dictionary the word jerk means “a dance that everybody do in l.a. and longbeach (southern cali). originated in l.a” (Urban Dictionary, p.1).
Therefore the word jerk is a misconception because there are numerous definitions for it and that is
why the real definition for jerk is someone between the ages of 13 and 45 because this is the age range when people lack in maturity and like to intentionally put people down by always dressing up to look good because they want to be the center of attention, only care about themselves and will do anything to get what they want, and like to make a fool out of others by calling them out, making fun of them, and leaving them out as an outcast.s showing off their million dollar wardrobe filled with the best of the best top brands? jerk. A jerk is someone between the ages of 13 and 45 who likes to intentionally put people down by always dressing up to look good, only care about themselves, or likes to make a fool out of others.
People may think that anyone can be a jerk, an 80 year old and an 8 year old can be jerks too. They probably also think that a jerk can be anyone who do not put others down intentionally, even if they did not mean to hurt anyone in any way they are still considered a jerk because they put someone down and made them feel bad about themselves. In other people’s opinion, they may disagree that people who dress up to look good are
not jerks because someone dirty and messy like a hobo can be a jerk as well. But, the true definition for a jerk is someone who dresses up to look good.

A lot of people would say that jerks are self-conscious because they always care too much of what othe
r people think of them. They tend to let other people’s opinion get to them, like if someone said “Oh my god, look at that boy and his jerk sister who looks like she gained 10 pounds.” Mostly likely the person who is being called the jerk will go on a diet even if they are already skinny, but they let other people’s judgment get to them due to their self-conscious. People also tend to think that jerks let other people make their decision for them because they think that their opinion will not matter as much as other people’s opinion. Therefore if they ch
oose to take other people’s opinion and if something goes wrong, they tend to blame others for their wrongs. This is wrong because a real jerk only care about themselves.
People who only care about themselves and will do anything to get what they want is a jerk! In the movie Tangled, Gothel is a jerk because she only cared about herself and her own being. Gothel trapped Rapunzel and locked her up in a tall tower and never let her outside due to the fact that she was afraid that she might lose Rapunzel because if Rapunzel ran away then Gothel will not have Rapunzel’s magical hair to keep her you
ng anymore. She never cared about Rapunzel, the only reason she raised Rapunzel up was because her hair was magical and it kept Gothel young.
By doing anything to stay young, Gothel took away Rapunzel’s childhood. Gothel went too far by taking away Rapunzel’s childhood because that is something one can never get back because it is something that only happens once in a life time. Not only did she take away Rapunzel’s childhood, she also prevented Rapunzel from seeing her biological parents. Gothel literally took away Rapunzel’s life by locking her up and not allowing her to have any contact with the outside world just so she can have Rapunzel and her hair all to herself, so she can stay young. People who will do anything to get what they want are a total jerk!
A lot of people would agree that a jerk is someone who tells the truth even if it is mean. The truth hurts and that is what jerks do. They tell the truth to hurt other people’s feelings. A jerk can say something like “If you are fat then you are fat, so that shirt does not make you look skinner or tone you down, just telling the truth.” A real jerk does not tell the truth, they just like to call people out and embarrass them, so they can feel better about themselves.

Kanye West likes to call people out because according to the Rolling Stone Magazine “West stormed the stage, taking the microphone from Swift to announce Beyoncé deserved the award” (Rolling Stone Magazine, p.1). Right when Taylor Swift was announcing her speech Kanye West took her microphone and shouted "Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time" (Rolling Stone Magazine, p.1)! Not only did Kanye West leave everyone speechless, he also left Taylor Swift crying hysterically backstage after his outburst (Rolling Stone Magazine, p.1). Kanye West is jerk because he literally called Taylor Swift out on national television.
There are a ton of people who appreciates comedians because they are just too funny. Comedians make other people laugh so hard that they end up in tears. Bryan Reagan is a comedian who is known for his jokes because his jokes are based off of situations where other people can relate to and that is why his jokes are so funny. Comedians are people’s entertainment because they make them laugh at their jokes. Not only are comedians people’s entertainment, comedians are also jerks.
Comedians are jerks because all they do is make fun of other people. According to CNN Katt Williams joked about Mexicans being landscapers and how they should go back to Mexico and an audience member got riled up over it and was eventually escorted out of the show (CNN, p.1). Jokes are supposed to be funny because they are made to intentionally hurt other people. People laugh at other people’s pain. If some sort of pain is not involved then most of the stuff people laugh at now would not be funny. When someone is telling a joke it is the same thing as telling the truth, except people just laugh the pain away because they know it is the truth. That is why comedians are a jerk because all they do is make fun of other people.
People tend to agree that it is okay to let go of your friends because it is a way to grow and expand on your own. Teenagers at the age of 13 always separate away from their childhood friends, so they can experience more. Parents usually think that if you hang out with the same people all the time, then you will always experience the same thing and nothing new, so that is why some parents are okay with it when their child is no longer friends with someone close. Teenagers are always moving on to bigger and better things. But, a real jerk is someone who leaves other people out as an outcast.
Once someone hits the age of 13, they are a jerk because all they do is leave other children out as an outcast. 13 is the age when the only thing that matters is popularity. To achieve popularity, these children will ditch their true friend who is someone who has always been there for them and instead hang with a group of people who does not even know that they exist. They will ignore their true friends and act as if they have never known each other because they feel embarrassed if their so called popular friends found out about their true friends. Once someone is 13 years old they are a jerk because all they do is leave other children out as an outcast.
A jerk is between the ages of 13 and 45 because this is the age range where they lack in maturity and all they enjoy doing is intentionally put other people down. A jerk loves attention and will always dress up to look good to satisfy their thirst for attention. They only care about themselves and will do anything to get what they want regardless of other people’s feelings. They enjoy making a fool out of others because they gain pure pleasure from their humiliation. Therefore this is the real definition of what a jerk truly is.

OMG I feel like I'm a big jerk after reading your essay. Bc I always go on a diet and say whatever in my mind. However I like your point about comedians and 13 yr old kids. The pictures are really funny that makes your argument more persuasive. This is an interesting topic. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting paper, and you effectively used each of your qualifiers. I think that your definition of a jerk is definitely debatable, and you explained your side well. I thought that it was interesting how you said that everyone over 13 years old is considered a jerk. Are all 13-year olds like this, and why does someone grow out of it when they hit 45? I liked how your examples were instances that most everyone could relate to. Good job.

The writing of your paper was a little more conversational rather than formal, but still was an easy read. I still have many arguments for your paper; however, you did a nice job in finding complimenting point of views to support your argument.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, the picture you used was represented your definition very well and was humorous. I agree with you that many are jerks especially at the age of thirteen. You explained what a jerk is very thoroughly. You couldn’t have used a better example than Kanye West! Great job on sources-they were credible and creative.
